Fun, Friendship and Activities

Putting the fun back into life

Our Poppy Centre is a perfect place to make new friends and have a break from routine. Our staff provide support and encouragement to help new visitors settle in quickly and make new friends.  Every day the Poppy Centre offers a freshly cooked 3 course meal and snacks\refreshments all made on-site by our chef in our 5 star food hygiene rated kitchen.

There are also activities every day which are completely optional, but bring some fun back into life:

  • Sing-a-longs
  • Reminiscence
  • Entertainers and music
  • Arts and crafts
  • Chair based exercise
  • Gardening on raised beds
  • Bingo and hoy
  • Puzzles and games
  • Summer barbecues on the patio in the gardens
  • Mindfulness and relaxation
  • Dancing
  • Chatting and laughing with new friends

The Poppy Centre is open Monday to Friday from 11am to 2:30pm.

More information about the Poppy Centre and who it is suitable for

The service is suitable for retired people who need a little support, for example we will cut food up for clients to make it more manageable for them and will blend food when necessary (e.g. for clients recovering from strokes).

It is not, however, suitable for people who need personal care (e.g. toileting, lifting, bathing etc.). If a person comes with a carer who will stay with them for the day and perform these functions for them, then they are welcome to use the service.

It is also not suitable for people with moderate to severe dementia, though we will shortly be opening a separate day respite service for older people with dementia who need care and a higher level of support. If you think that this service would be more appropriate then ask our staff about this when you contact us.

Your first visit to the Poppy centre is as our guest for the day at no charge, so you can see how you like it.
