Spring Time Tidy
What better time than now to have a good old fashioned spring tidy and clear out of all those things you no longer want or need! With the longer days, this may be just the time to declutter and have a fresh start. Whether it is old paperwork, clothing, books or furniture, why not have a look round and ask yourself when was the last time you used an item and are you likely to use it again?
If you do have items you no longer need why not donate them to a local Charity. Here at Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton we believe charity shops are an important part of every high street or community. You can purchase quality items such as bric a brac, current/retro fashions, furniture or goods not commonly found in other stores at great prices with any profit going directly to Charity. Across the UK, over £220 million is raised for charity every year in this way and in our case, profits are used to improve the lives of older people in Liverpool and Sefton. For example, £25 can help us to buy a hamper for older people in need at Christmas.
Charity shops also play an important role in recycling goods and reducing the amount of waste going to landfill sites. It’s estimated that over 350,000 tonnes of clothing and other textiles pass through charity shops every year and 98% of materials donated to charity shops are recycled or sold on for reuse.
There are lots of pressures on charity shop stock at the moment such as bogus collectors, commercial Companies collecting second hand clothing so the simplest way to ensure you get the most out of your unwanted clothing is to take items directly into your local shop. That way, you know 100% of any profits made will go to a good cause, and you might also find a bargain at the same time!
Another way of helping is to donate your time, as much or little as you like. Many volunteers find this a great way to meet new friends, socialise and help a charity at the same time.
Please keep us in mind when sorting through your unwanted items, your friends, family and work colleagues may also have clothes and other items they don’t use which could be donated to a charity shop.We have a collection service and can arrange to pick up items, including furniture and house clearances from your home or donations can be dropped off at our shops or offices.
Thank you to all those who support Charity Shops by shopping, donating or volunteering. If you would like to help Age Concern Liverpool and Sefton by donating goods or volunteering at our shops in Bootle and Garston please call us on 01704 542993.
