Keep warm, Keep well events
Fuel poverty is a growing concern as it contributes to excess winter deaths and has a negative impact on both physical and mental health conditions, thus increasing the strain on the NHS and social services. It is a particular concern in Sefton due to a high level of hard to heat properties, an aging population and high levels of local unemployment and ill health.
Sefton O.P.E.R.A Team (Older Persons Enabling Resource & Action) are inviting people aged 50+ to attend their ‘Keep Warm Keep Well’ events this October.
They are holding these events in partnership with The Affordable Warmth Team. The aim is to provide advice and information (as well as freebies) to Sefton residents, to assist them to keep warm and healthy in their homes in the winter months. There will be stalls from a variety of other local organisations including welfare rights and home improvements so that older people can get all of their winter needs sorted in one place. There will also be free blood pressure checks and chair based exercise sessions plus a free light lunch and goody bags.
Although the purpose of the event is to prepare for Winter there will also be lots of fun activities to make the day more enjoyable including massages and tai chi. Events will be followed by a tea dance from 1:30pm with musical entertainment provided by Memory Lane, Bootle Bells, Ernie and Sefton Opera’s own Elvis!
The Mayor of Sefton June Burns will be opening the Bootle event and joining in with some of the activities.
So please do come along to either:
- Bootle Cricket Club Wadham Road Bootle on Monday 14th October between 10.30-12.30
- The Atkinson, Lord Street, Southport. On Monday 25th November between 10.30 – 12.30.
Please note there is free parking outside at the Bootle Cricket Club but only limited parking at the Atkinson.
You can just turn up on the day or you can find out more by contacting Sefton Opera on 0151 330 0479 or 07452 867 648 or by emailing: email@example.com for more information.
